Kendall Elise has just brought out her first album, Red Earth, and will be sharing a free performance at Gin and Raspberry on July 13.
The entire album is about growing up in Papakura, South Auckland, and covers subjects like child poverty, gender inequality, tangata whenua and mental illness.
The album moves ‘effortlessly and seamlessly through a number of styles and genres, from dark country to true country, from folk and chilled pop to bluesy rock’, delivering ‘an album packed with mood and personality’.
One critic said she has “a voice that will send delectable shivers down your spine and an ever-evolving aptitude for composing music. Kendall Elise can undoubtedly look forward to a long and illustrious career.”
This year alone she has played a string of gigs and opened for Gin Wigmore on her recent New Zealand tour. Elise is described as a consummate performer, who, alongside her band, has earned a reputation as having a mesmerizing live act.
Doors open at 7.30pm and Elise will be on stage at 8pm.
