Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) and Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) are investigating possible sinkholes in the mud at Lake Wanaka's popular paddling area at Bremner Bay.

Until QLDC has further information they strongly advise caution when walking in Bremner Bay and close supervision of children.

The QLDC said that working with LINZ will enable them to establish the exact nature of the terrain in the shallows and take any further action required. They added that this caution has been issued first to make people aware in the meantime.

Signage has been erected at the two possible sinkholes sites and further updates will follow.
