Lighting the spirit of Christmas
The Spirit of Christmas is coming to Wanaka this week with the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree and the opening of Santa’s Grotto.
Organiser Jen Anderson was busy with her fairies decorating the Christmas Tree ready for the show to be held in the grounds of the Wanaka Hotel on Friday, December 1 at 7pm.
“It is going to be a fantastic night of entertainment with performances by Wanaka Ukuleles, Jeremy Van Riel’s group, Holy Family School and Hawea Flat School and more. The evening is free and we invite everyone to bring a rug and picnic and enjoy the show. The tree will be lit on dusk,” Jen said.Santa’s Grotto opens for the first time on Saturday, December 2 at the Upper Clutha Rugby Club. Jen said she has been down two fairies this year and it has been a big job for her and Yeverly McCarthy to get together.
“Fortunately, we have had fantastic help from the Wanaka golf ladies and Stonewood Homes. It is just like Wanaka. They come in when we really need them. It is just awesome.”
Santa’s Grotto will be open December 2 and 3 - 11am-1pm and 3pm-5pm, December 6, 7 and 8 - 4.30-6pm and December 9 and 10 - 11am-1pm, 3pm-5pm.
