Just five days before they were due to begin, Blythe’s friend Michelle Creegan-Dougherty travelled from Calgary, Canada, to join them. Their journey, which began in Blenheim in November, has brought them over mountains and high country to Wanaka’s Glendhu Bay before they head over Cecil Peak towards Queenstown. The girls have the same six horses they started with, despite the daily challenge of keeping them fit and healthy. “Without them we wouldn’t be able to do this, so we have to make sure they stay healthy. The whole journey has been absolutely amazing and the landowners have been incredible. We wouldn’t have been able to do the route we have without their kindness,” Jade said.
